Meet The Press, Sunday & Insiders: Roy Morgan Reactor Shows Response To Interviews

Following John Howard’s announcement of his intention to contest the coming election and retire some time well into the next term, L-NP supporters responded well to the L-NP team — particularly Joe Hockey and Peter Costello- coming in behind their leader, John Howard, on the weekend according to a special Morgan Poll, conducted in the last 24 hours using the Reactor — Roy Morgan Research’s online real time reaction device based on an Australia-wide sample of 342 ALP supporters and 208 L-NP supporters. The Reactor this week shows all L-NP spokespeople — John Howard, Wayne Abbott, Alexander Downer, Joe Hockey and Peter Costello — spoke well to their supporters.

The Blue line (L-NP supporters) escalated dramatically when each one came in behind their Leader John Howard and supported his decision to lead the team to the coming election.

Overall, the L-NP supporters did not respond well to Julia Gillard. In particular her “cutting his throat” comment about John Howard’s retirement announcement lost L-NP supporters (the Reactor showing a dramatic decrease).

Unsurprisingly, ALP supporters responded negatively when Howard and his L-NP Ministers appeared, but favourably for Gillard.

“Last week we said: ‘If the L-NP Ministers and Liberal Party get behind Howard the electorate will act positively. If Peter Costello openly endorses Howard and praises him for the job he’s done, the Howard Government is in the game again’.
