Howard Stronger than Latham

Finding No. 3727 - April 06, 2004

A significant majority of Australian electors believe Prime Minister John Howard is a stronger leader than Opposition Leader Mark Latham (55% cf 32%) and 55% say he would be better at managing Australia’s economy than Mr Latham, 25%, a special telephone Morgan Poll taken on the nights of Wednesday March 31 and Thursday April 1 Thursday, finds.

More electors trust the Prime Minister to keep Australia safe and secure (51% cf 32%). The Prime Minister was also favoured by electors as being more capable and intelligent than Mr Latham (49% cf 27%) and as making clearer policy statements (47% cf 34%).

Mr Latham rated best for looking after your family’s needs (50% cf 34%) and for showing more fairness to everyone (46% cf 35%). The Leader of the opposition also rated better than the The Prime Minister as being best for minimising the tax you pay (39% cf 29%) and for being more honest and trustworthy than Mr Howard (35% cf 32%).
