Federal Election will be won in Queensland & New South Wales
Liberals set to win Macarthur & Robertson in NSW while Hasluck (WA) ‘Too close to call’

Finding No. 4523 - Over 3,000 electors were polled in 15 Marginal Electorates around Australia including 4 in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, and 1 each in South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.: July 03, 2010

PDF of this release available here.

If a Federal Election were held today the LNP would win the key New South Wales seats of Macarthur & Robertson and the seat of Hasluck in WA could go either way. Combined with the results of Thursday’s special Queensland ALP marginal seat poll which showed the LNP picking up the Queensland seats of Flynn, Longman and Dawson the Opposition is close to winning the nine seats from the ALP it needs to form the next government according to a special telephone Morgan Poll conducted June 25 — July 1, 2010 in key marginal seats around Australia.

The LNP vote (Two-Party Preferred) in Macarthur was 61.5% (up 11.6%); Robertson 51.5% (up 1.6%) and Hasluck 50% (up 1%). In the key Queensland ALP marginal seats the LNP vote was 55% in Flynn (up 7.3%); Longman 56.5%, (up 8.2%) and Dawson 51%, (up 3.4%).

Gary Morgan says:

“This special marginal seat telephone Morgan Poll conducted around Australia over the past week shows the LNP gaining key marginal seats in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. The LNP require a gain of nine seats from the ALP around Australia to form Government after the Federal Election and today’s Morgan Poll shows the LNP winning five key seats — two in New South Wales (Macarthur, Robertson), three in Queensland (Flynn, Dawson and Longman) as well as the seat of Hasluck in Western Australia being too close to call.

“The results of this special telephone Morgan Poll shows the Federal Election this year show the States of New South Wales and Queensland as the key battlegrounds for both parties attempting to win a majority of seats.

“This morning Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced changes to the Mining Tax, presumably to clear the deck for an election to be called. The other issues that electors want addressed by the Federal Government will now need to be addressed — including such issues as Education, Crime and Law & Order, and those electorates that have been left behind — the Consumer Confidence ‘black holes’.”

Electors were asked: “If a Federal election for the House of Representatives were being held today, which party would receive your FIRST preference?”
