NZ National-led Government (55%, down 2%) lose ground on Opposition Parties (45%); But National Party (50%, down 1%) still well ahead of Labour Party (33.5%, unchanged)

This latest New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention was conducted by telephone with a New Zealand-wide cross-section of 898 electors from August 2 - 15, 2010. Of all electors surveyed, 7% (down 1%) did not name a party.:

The latest New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll shows support for John Key’s National-led Government has weakened to 55% (down 2%), comprising National Party 50% (down 1%), Maori Party 3% (down 0.5%), ACT NZ 1.5% (down 0.5%) and United Future 0.5% (unchanged).
Support for Opposition Parties has risen to 45% (up 2%); Labour Party 33.5% (unchanged), Greens 7.5% (up 1%), New Zealand First 3.5% (up 1.5%) and Others 0.5% (unchanged).
If a National Election were held today the National Party would be clearly returned to Government.
The Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating is up 1.5 points to 131 with 58.5% (up 1%) of New Zealanders saying New Zealand is ‘heading in the right direction’ compared to 27.5% (down 0.5%) that say New Zealand is ‘heading in the wrong direction.’
Gary Morgan says:
“Today’s New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll shows a slight weakening in support for the National-led Government (55%, down 2%) but still maintaining a strong lead over the Opposition Parties (45%, up 2%).
“Support for governing National (50%, down 1%) remains well ahead of the main Opposition Labour Party (33.5%, unchanged). The biggest beneficiaries of this week’s poll are the Greens (7.5%, up 1%) and the unrepresented in Parliament New Zealand First (3.5%, up 1.5%).”
Electors were asked: “If a New Zealand Election were held today which party would receive your party vote?”
