The Establishment Survey Background

Each weekend since 1941, Roy Morgan Interviewing Services Interviewers have conducted face to face interviews in the homes of local residents across Australia. This Establishment Survey (the Morgan Poll) is an ongoing face-to-face survey which collects information from over 1,000 men and women each week aged 14 years and over across Australia.

The information collected from the Establishment Survey and the two self-administered Poll Booklets are compiled into Roy Morgan’s massive database called ‘Single Source’.

Establishment Survey Interviewing is ongoing weekend only work. If this does not suit you, you may be interested in our Face to Face Customised Research work. Customised Research work is not as regular; however, it may be weekdays and/ or weekends.

Who should apply?

We have no set personality profiles for those looking to become face to face interviewers. Due to the flexible nature of the role it attracts and suits many different people.

Ideally, we are looking for people who are:

Friendly and Approachable
In possession of excellent English communication skills. (Note - Applicants with English as a second language require a minimum IELTS score of 7.5 with a minimum score of 7.5 for the speaking task).
Able to work independently
Tenacious and Persistent
Mature minded
Have their own motor vehicle

The Work — Face to Face Interviewing

Interviews are conducted door to door in the homes of local residents. You ask the respondents the questions exactly as written and record their answers. There is no selling involved, we are just gathering opinions on consumer, social and political issues.

All information is kept confidential and official identification is provided to reassure the public that interviewers are working for Roy Morgan Interviewing Services.

Interviewing Hours

Casual Interviewers are required to conduct 8 face to face interviews per weekend during daylight hours. Interviewers should commence interviewing on the Saturday morning and finish their last assignment by late Sunday afternoon.

How long does the interview take?
The interview itself can take an average of 1 hour. This is an average, and is entirely dependant upon how many topics are relevant to the respondent. It can be as short as 45 minutes or as long as 90 minutes.

Who will I have to interview?
Interviews are usually conducted close to your home, either in your electoral region or a neighbouring electoral region. You will be given a starting address and asked to work from there. Casual Interviewers begin at the starting address and continue from door to door to interview willing participants.

Availability of work
The work is flexible and you work when you choose, within agreed weekend. We would like Interviewers to be able to commit to an average of two weekends per month. However, it is entirely up to you, you can work every weekend if the work is available in your area.

Term of Employment
Roy Morgan Interviewers work as casual employees under a collective agreement. A TFN must be supplied.
