Climate Change costs erode ALP support
Federal Poll : Finding No. 4310 : Latest Morgan Poll Results show the ALP still ahead. : July 25, 2008
In late July, ALP support is 45.5% (down 2.5%) ahead of L-NP support 39.5% (up 5%). On a two-party preferred basis, support for the ALP is 55% (down 5%), while support for the L-NP is 45% (up 5%). If the Federal Election were held today the ALP would win according to the latest face-to-face Morgan Poll conducted on the weekend of July 19/20. Among the minor parties, support for the Greens is 7.5% (down 4%), support for Family First 2% (down 0.5%) and Independents/Others 5.5% (up 2%).

ALP maintain strong lead over Coalition as Garnaut Report gives boost to Greens

In mid July, ALP support is 48% (down 0.5%) still well ahead of L-NP support 34.5% (down 0.5%). On a two-party preferred basis, support for the ALP is 60% (up 1%), while support for the L-NP is 40% (down 1%). If the Federal Election were held today the ALP would win easily according to the latest face-to-face Morgan Poll conducted on the weekend of July 12/13. Among the minor parties, support for the Greens (up 3.5% to 11.5%) is at a new record high after the release of the Garnaut Report, support for Family First is unchanged at 2.5% and Independent/Others 3.5% (down 2.5%).

New Zealand Labour Government Support remains weak as Election Nears

In mid July 2008 the New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll shows National Party support at 52% (up 0.5%) clearly ahead of the Labour Party 31% (up 0.5%), if an election were held now the National Party would win. Support for the Greens was 7.5% (down 0.5%), NZ First 6.5% (up 2.5% to its highest level since September 2006), Maori Party 1% (down 1.5%), United Future 1% (unchanged) and ACT NZ 0.5% (down 1.5%).
The Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has fallen to a record low 87 (down 1) and the Roy Morgan New Zealand Consumer Confidence Rating although up 3.7 points, is also at a near record low 85.7.

Slide in Australian Car-Buying Intention May be over

The latest Early Indicators data from Roy Morgan suggests that the recent steep decline in new vehicle purchasing intention may have stabilised. The June data shows that the percentage of the over 18 year old population intending to purchase a new vehicle in the next 12 months rose marginally to 3.3% from the May result of 3.2%, halting a steep three month decline.

The Qantas website is the most popular ‘Travel’ website for Australians, according to the latest Roy Morgan Single Source survey. The survey, reporting on Internet usage from January to March 2008, found that 1.494 million Australians (up 72,000 – 5.1% since January to March 2007) visited ‘qantas.com.au’ in an average four week period. ‘Virginblue.com.au’ followed closely, receiving 1.485 million (up 96,000 – 6.9%) visits, followed by ‘jetstar.com.au’ with 1.246 million (up 216,000 – a large growth of 21%) visits, ahead of ‘Flightcentre.com.au’, visited by 920,000, but down 105,000 (-10.2%) Australians.

Seek is the most popular ‘Employment’ website for Australians, according to the latest Roy Morgan Single Source survey. The survey, reporting on Internet usage from January to March 2008, found that 1.501 million Australians (down 129,000 — 7.9% since January to March 2007) visited ‘seek.com.au’ in an average four week period. Although Seek is down 136,000 visitors since its peak (1.637 million during July-September 2007), it is still easily the most visited employment site. Next is MyCareer, visited by 928,000 (down 74,000 — 7.4%) Australians in an average four week period, followed by CareerOne visited by 763,000 (down 202,000 — 20.9%) Australians.

‘Carsales.com.au’ is the most popular Automotive website in Australia, according to the latest Roy Morgan Single Source survey. The survey, reporting on Internet usage from January to March 2008, found that 768,000 Australians (up 114,000 – 17.4% since January to March 2007) visited ‘carsales.com.au’ in an average four week period. Their competitors include ‘carpoint.com.au’, hosted by ‘ninemsn’, visited by 541,000 (down 1,000 – 0.2%) Australians, the automotive section of the Trading Post visited by 520,000 (up 45,000 – 9.5%) and ‘carsguide.com.au’ visited by 438,000 (down 60,000 – 12%) Australians.
