Ex Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s ‘Thank you and Goodbye’ speech was most well received of the speeches last night when Kevin Rudd returned to the Labor leadership according to an analysis of second-by-second reactions of Australians today.

Kevin Rudd in what might be called his ‘I am Back’ started poorly but gained agreement from the electorate as he spoke about how negativity had been holding the country back and how it had to stop. Overall he did not score as well as Julia Gillard.

Least well received was Bill Shorten in his ‘I’ll be supporting Rudd’ announcement (Reactor score well below the mid line of 50). And relatively poorly received was Tony Albanese’s ‘Your new Deputy PM’ speech.

The dynamic, interactive Reactor Report is available instantly (via this hyperlink) for television or the web.

More detailed analysis of the reaction of young Australians shows Kevin Rudd appealing more to younger Australians than older Australians. However the 18-24 year olds reacted positively to Julia Gillard’s parting “Meddlesome Great Aunt” comment. (see below)

Not surprisingly, ALP voters’ reactions showed greater agreement with all the Labor speeches than did LNP voters.  Green supporters were more positive toward Julia Gillard than Kevin Rudd or Tony Albanese.

Analysis by State showed demarcation of allegiance – along similar lines to the SMS Morgan Poll taken in the hours after Kevin Rudd returned as Labor leader last night.

Queensland electors reacting much more positively than electors from any other State to Kevin Rudd’s post-ballot ‘I am back’.
